why this project was made?
3 weeks - Fall 202o
This project was done during my first term at SFU. It is a part of a lower-division course as a way for students to get introduced to Adobe Suite Skills, specifically After Effect. This project was also my first time using After Effect to create a product, I've learned a lot not only about technical skills but also how motion theories being applied to animation in general.
Inspirational resources
I decided to choose the song "DO DO DO" by Dansu since it has a specific theme (80s, 90s vibe), which I found really intersting to develop it into a kinetic typography video. The song also includes different tones and instrumental sounds.
The song’s MV mostly inspired me. The whole MV is full of vintage, retro colours and objects. Even the transitions have an old-school vibe as well.

Designing Process
After decided on using 80s retro era as the main theme, I did some research about different objects and colours. I ended up using this color scheme (with adjustments) for my video, since I found it fitted the most with the theme I'm working on.

I started to analyze the song’s lyrics to roughly know what I will include in my project ( sketches/ transitions, etc). After that, I started to plan out the storyboard and sketched elements that fit with the lyrics. I also paid attention to their details and how they will synchronize with the song in general.

Choosing fonts is also a part of the project. This part was a bit challenging for me as I don't want to use only 1 font throughout the whole video. By using multiple fonts, I have to ensure they look good together and also fit well with the video theme. At the same time, I don't want them to be too complicated for the audience when they watch the final project. Therefore, I keep asking for feedback from the professor and also my friends to continue improving my work overtime.
Reflection
Through this project, I learned to effectively apply the designing process to my work and also improve my skills a lot in using After Effect to create an animated video. Moreover, I also understand more about the rules of object motions used in animation and how to use them properly.
