Multi-linear interactive narrative
GRAPHIC DESIGN/ narrative/ SCHOOL PROJECT
This is a web-based visual novel that has a multi-linear interactive narrative. The story follows the adventure of a girl on her way to rescue her dear brother. The uniqueness of the project itself is that it allows users to make their own choices while interacting with the website. Each choice will eventually lead to a different ending to the story. This project was also featured to be shown in SFU SIAT Spring 2022 showcase!

why this project was made?
This project was done during my first upper-level course at SFU. It was also the first time I designed a website and wrote a multi-ending story all by myself. The user experience while browsing my website and also how they respond to different story elements were the things I learned the most. Experiencing WIX and Procreate to create this project also brings a lot of fun to me!
Writing the story

This is definitely the most challenging part as I have never written an imagining story in my life before. Choosing theme, creating characters, thinking about the plot twist and multiple ending, etc, all of these steps took me almost a week to think of. Moreover, since the story has not only 1 ending but 3, I have to carefully choose the important elements of the story that lead to these endings. They also have to synchronize with the whole story in general and make senses to the readers as well.

Drafting and listing out all possibilities for my story
getting into illustration
After finishing writing the story, I started to create illustrated elements for it. I also want to make the website background by myself since I think this is the best way to show the audience the theme of the narrative. as the theme was supposed to be mysterious, and mainly happens in the forest, I chose dark green, yellow and black to be the main colours theme. I also decided to keep all the characters in shadow black colour and have no facial features, as a way to let the viewers have their own imagination.

Some of the main elements in the story
web design process
The last step is to put up everything on the website. Setting up the eyes hierarchy and also taking into account how users will interact with my website was the part I spend most of the time on. I use the font "Merchant Copy" as the main font since it brings back the feeling of the web-based novel rather than just a papered one.

Reflection
I learned a lot about users' experience with web design while doing this project since this is the first website I ever made. i also find it really interesting to create a story with different endings by myself. Illustrating a whole story and different backgrounds is another thing I truly enjoy doing while working on the project overall.
