Visual identity & branding guide

GRAPHIC DESIGN/ visual design/ SCHOOL PROJECT

This is one of the first projects I've ever designed since I started being interested in graphic design. This project was also the first time I teamed up with someone to think of a business model as well as create the logo and branding guide for it.

This project was done during my first studying term in Canada. I am always into perfumes and so is my teammate. Therefore, we decided to create a perfume company with the name "Gloria", meaning glorious in Spanish. We all wanted to create something that not only represents the idea of our business but also brings in the beauty of Vietnam since we're both Vietnamese! That's why I came up with the idea of choosing Vietnam's national flower (lotus) to create the logo as the main element of the design, and my teammate totally enjoyed the idea and decided to go along with it.

About the brand

Company type: Perfume Company
Company name: GLORIA
Company Profile: Our idea is to create a company that is specific to making perfumes having the most elegant, fancy and attractive smell, the customers should be mature enough to wear them whenever and wherever they want. it could be home, workplace, special events, etc. Our company is created to help women become glorious in every single moment.
Target Customers: Women around the world who are older than 25 years old.

Design process

Since I was in charge of the logo design, I first came up with several sketches to know which one my teammate like the most. However, I hadn't come up with the idea of using the lotus flowers at this point yet.

My very first sketches for the logo

Later on, my teammate suggested that my sketches were too complicated to be a logo as there are many details and did not really show up the idea of our branding at the beginning. This is where I decided only to use flower and perfume elements to create the logo. My teammate and I went through many ideas and did several mock-up logos to decide which one we like the most. After that, we discuss them with the professor and got feedback to finalize our logo for the company.

Logo Design Progress

While choosing fonts and colours scheme for the logo, my teammate and I both agreed that they have to fit well with the idea of the business which is "elegant" and "glorious". Therefore, we think that a long, thin, san-serif font would be the most appropriate one, Moreover, as the logo somewhat still have certain details already, a simple font won't be too much for the audience to look at. The pink colour scheme was chosen by me as I thought that will be the best representation for the beauty of women.

Business card & Cover Letter

The final step for this project was to create a business card and cover letter, also some products application with the logo on them. Since our team had all the elements and a clear idea of what our company is targeting, this step was not challenging but rather a good step for us to know how our logo will be represented in different products. I was responsible for the business card while my teammate came up with the design of the cover letter.

I learned a lot through this project as I understand how to show my ideas to other people and distribute to the work of the group in general. I also understand different perspectives of other members of the team can bring out a lot of interesting results to the final work. Last but not least, I really enjoyed creating a visual identity for my non-existed company and also multiple steps to finalize its branding guide.
